EU internal market

One of the most substantial attainments of the European integration is the EU internal market that was completed in the beginning of 1993 and where common rules facilitating trade, investments and cross-border movement of persons are applied.

Development of the internal market is an on-going process within the purview of EU institutions and Member States. A number of areas, from removal of obstacles in the services sector to improvement of the public procurement procedures and safeguarding rights and freedoms of EU citizens, subject to pending reforms.

Coordination of the implementation of the EU internal market policy is among the tasks of the Ministry of Economy. In pursuance of this goal, the Ministry of Economy:

  • coordinates contribution of the Republic of Lithuania into the EU policy making in the area of horizontal issues of the internal market;
  • coordinates implementation of the EU policy in the area of free movement of goods;
  • coordinates the making and implementation process of the national policy in the services sector (except for financial services);
  • coordinates implementation of EU initiatives in the area of the internal market to improve and simplify conditions for business;
  • performs the functions of the Lithuanian SOLVIT centre in addressing problems that challenge economic entities and citizens and are caused by drawbacks in the functioning of the EU internal market.
