Capacity building course on “Tourism Destination: Policy and Management”

On 17-19 April, the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania and in cooperation with the UNWTO and the Themis Foundation held the first of the three-phase capacity building course on “Tourism Destination: Policy and Management”.

The course is being delivered by two international experts, Dr Edit Szivas and Dr Davina Stanford, and examines tourism policies, the creation of tourism development plans and regulatory mechanisms and the application of these in a variety of locations throughout the world.

The participants engage in modules comprising a mix of theory and practice which are delivered both onsite in Palanga and through online learning. The course aims to provide the participants with knowledge, skills, tools and a forum for discussion and reflection about tourism planning, development and management as well as the key policy dimensions.

Isabel Garaña, the Regional Director for Europe, UNWTO, said “This course is just one of several initiatives being organized between the UNWTO and Lithuania in 2012. We are very proud to have Lithuania as one of our most active Member States and are working closely with the Ministry of Economy to support their objective of developing a thriving and sustainable tourism sector.”
